PRA Chief Meets with BARP


More than 5,000 members of the Blessed Association of Retired Persons (BARP) Foundation, Inc. welcomed Gen. Edgar B. Aglipay, Chairman of the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA). Aglipay represented Her Excellency
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during the BARP General Assembly held last October 26-27 at the Athletic Bowl, Burnham Park, Baguio City.

He met with BARP President Prof. Ben Balanag, together with officers of the foundation, and presented the positive outlook for the global retirement industry. He likewise discussed the features and benefits of PRA's retirement program. BARP membership is composed of retirees and elderlies from Baguio City, Ilocos, La Union, Pangasinan and the Cordillera Region.

Its organizational thrusts are directed towards "promoting a better quality of life, respect for dignity, care and
s h a r i n g , sel f - ful f i l lment and development of opportunities among retirees and elderly and the community where they reside." Among BARP's programs are the Botika ng Bayan, micro-financing for livelihood, medical and dental d i a g n o s t i c c e n t e r , m u t u a l assistance program and a physical fitness program as well. Aglipay also took the opportunity to meet with Baguio hotel owners and managers. He briefed the latter on how to support PRA's programs.
